My Music Is Skipping or Cutting Out
If the music keeps skipping, stuttering, or dropping out completely, the most common cause is a weak or unstable internet connection.
Step 1: Check the Player’s Network Connection
Compact Player
Look at the Network light (middle light on the front):
-
Solid green = connected
-
Blinking green = trying to connect
-
Red/orange/blinking red = network issue
LCD Player
Check the screen for any errors like:
-
“Disconnected”
-
“Try another preset”
If you see one of these, the player isn’t connected.
Step 2: Check the Network Setup
-
Make sure the Ethernet cable is securely plugged in on both ends
-
Power cycle the music player
-
If possible, try a different Ethernet port on the switch or router
-
Avoid using Wi-Fi bridges or mesh systems — a wired connection is always more stable
Step 3: Restart Your Network Equipment
If you’re able:
-
Power off your router and modem for 10 seconds (outside of business hours)
-
Power them back on
-
Then restart your player
This helps clear up temporary network congestion or dropped connections.
Step 4: If It Still Happens Regularly
If your player is fully connected but the music continues to skip:
-
Check with your IT provider or POS vendor to confirm there are no firewall restrictions
-
Consider using a dedicated network port for the music player to avoid interference from other devices
